The party cadres want the yatra to visit their respective states as well as the initial stages since the yatra has been successful. NEW DELHI: The Congress’ “Bharat Jodo Yatra” entered its fourth day on Sunday with much fanfare, but the party appeared divided over its route, particularly its exclusion of Gujarat. The party wants to cover the poll-bound state in the campaign.
Many leaders wanted Gujarat to be covered even when the yatra was in planning stages. From Kanyakumari to Kashmir, the long, drawn-out campaign spanned over 3,500 km and 150 days, and the yatra planners argued that including the state was logistically impossible.
An anonymous Congress leader, however, claimed Gujarat should have been included in the yatra as it was a poll-bound state. It is shocking that the leaders who were planning this yatra didn’t take this into consideration. Several Gujarat leaders have left the party. AAP is also making its presence felt in the state. The yatra would have provided a big boost to the party.
Gujarat is not the only eastern state that is skipped during the yatra. The party cadres want the yatra to visit their states too after seeing the success of the yatra in its initial stages.
The yatra organisers had been requested to include Gujarat and Himachal Pradesh in the campaign by leaders from both states. However, these demands were ignored by the organizing committee. Rather than joining the main yatra, Gujarat and Himachal Pradesh leaders were told to start their own.
