This time, a Chrysanthemum Show will be zero waste

This year’s Chrysanthemum Show will be ‘zero waste’. At the Terraced Garden, Sector 33, all floral waste, along with other garbage, will be processed into environmentally friendly products after the event.

Floral waste, which was previously discarded at landfills, will be converted into incense sticks and “diyas”.

A proposal to this effect was approved at a meeting today by Councillor Saurabh Joshi, who is a member of the Finance and Contract Committee (F&CC). There should be no waste left behind after the event. Various recycling facilities will handle the entire waste stream.” The civic body has already begun collecting flowers and garlands offered at religious sites for making “dhoop” (incense). In the festive season, the city produces 700 kg of floral waste per day, up from 450 kg per day. Floral waste is collected from 156 locations, including religious places, banquet halls, and florists.

During the show, participants will be assigned stalls to display their flowers. Live music will also be provided for the event. In order to highlight the relevance of the show, a large screen may also be installed.”

A budget of Rs 11.17 lakh has been prepared by the MC for the event. During the show, there will be various flower competitions. From December 2 to 4, individuals and organizations can participate in the three-day event.
