Votes are being counted in Haryana’s panchayat elections

On Sunday, Haryana officials began counting the votes for the panchayat samiti and zila parishad elections.

It started at 8 a.m., they said.

The counting centers have been secured tightly.

Three phases of elections were held for 143 panchayat samitis and 22 zila parishads.

A total of 411 members are represented in 22 zila parishads in Haryana. A total of 22 zila parishad chiefs will be elected by the members.

There are 143 panchayat samitis in the state, which elect their respective presidents.

A police officer and a general observer will closely monitor the counting process, Haryana State Election Commissioner Dhanpat Singh said on Saturday.

All counting centers will also be videotaped, he said.

Before, the results of panch and sarpanch elections were announced immediately following the polls.
