We will be consultative, collaborative, and decisive during our G-20 presidency: Jaishankar

On Thursday, External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar, as India assumed the presidency of G-20, urged the country to be the voice of the Global South regarding fuel, food, and fertiliser issues.

The apprehension he shared was that more dominant issues could sidetrack issues like sustainable development, climate action, and climate justice.

The G-20 presidency of India takes place at a critical time in international affairs, Jaishankar said at the University Connect Programme in New Delhi. World leaders should pay particular attention to issues affecting the most vulnerable sections of society, he added.

As India holds the G-20 presidency, the spotlight will be on LiFE (‘Lifestyle for the Environment) and its associated, environmentally sustainable and responsible choices, both at an individual and national level. In addition, he noted that India would lead the G-20 in a consultative, collaborative, and decisive manner as the mother of democracy.

During India’s G-20 presidency, Harsh Vardhan Shringla said that Indians have a unique opportunity to showcase their rich cultural heritage and diversity, tourism potential, and development prowess.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi will set the global agenda as the head of G-20, according to India’s G-20 Sherpa Amitabh Kant. Considering the G-20 accounts for 85 percent of global GDP and two-thirds of the global population, India’s presidency is a historic moment.

As a result of the PM’s leadership, the G-20 became more action-oriented, inclusive, reform-oriented, and forward-looking.
