Mohammad Kaif is confident that India will qualify for the ICC T20 World Cup as a strong contender.
During his visit to Delhi for the Legends League Cricket, the batsman said Indian hopes for the World Cup will be high, especially after key players returned to form.
The team has good strength and with key players returning to form, India should win the World Cup finals,” Kaif told ANI on Thursday.
Former player expressed opposition to it, saying it had been implemented some time ago and had not been a success. It was difficult for the captain to manage, he added.
It was the former Indian batter who spoke in favor of the slow over-rate rule that ICC has introduced, saying that the rule impacts the game as players will no longer be fined for it as they used to be.
“I’m a fan of the rule that penalizes teams during the match for slow over rates by allowing only four fielders outside the 30-yard circle if the team exceeds the allotted time to complete the inning. In the past, fines were imposed after matches, but now they can be imposed during matches. During the India-Pakistan Asia Cup match, the captain and coach suffered. It then pushed them to improve on this aspect,” Kaif added.
In discussing the recent performance of the Indian team and Rohit Sharma’s captainship, he was surprised at Rohit Sharma’s confusion over team selection during the Asia Cup.
My biggest surprise was that the Asian Cup team didn’t figure out a formidable 11-man squad. Rohit Sharma is a great captain. He has done well in the IPL, but he appeared unsure of team selection during the Asia Cup. Currently, Dinesh Karthik is playing in front of Rishabh Pant, and after Bumrah returns, I think this is the team that will play at the World Cup,” Kaif predicted.
