After his speech counting advantages of having small eyes went viral, Nagaland’s education and tribal affairs minister Temjen Imna Along grabbed a lot of attention.
As World Population Day approaches, the minister has once again made headlines.
“Let’s inculcate informed choices on child bearing on the occasion of #WorldPopulationDay,” he tweeted.
But the tweet that has been retweeted more than 4,000 times is all about joining the singles movement.
We can make a positive impact on the future if we #StaySingle like me,” Along tweeted as well.
He soon received a flood of funny reactions and memes from Twitter users. According to a commenter, a user asked whether the minister would get married, and another responded with a famous line from the web series Mirzapur in which Munna Tripathi (Divyenndu) says,”I haven’t thought about it, but will definitely think about it.”.
A video of Along’s speech about the stereotype faced by people of northeastern states about having small eyes went viral few days ago. Yuvraj Vats wrote, “Finally, we have a leader of singles.” Despite their smaller eyes, people from the northeast have sharp vision, and their small eyes protect them from dirt and other foreign substances.
Having smaller eyes prevents dirt from getting inside the eyes. And we can easily sleep when a long program is being broadcast,” the minister said.
